The North Is a Chimera (Loquera), the original song from the documentary #Darien (2024), is an urban recomposition of the traditional merengue by Luis Fragachán from 1928, adapted by Luke Grande, Salomón Lerner, and Tatiana Rojas Ponce. The lyrics, which replace the original, are based on the testimonies of the film’s protagonists.

The musicians are also Venezuelans who have been living in New York for over a decade, and with their work, they wanted to welcome new migrants to this city, which they now consider their own. The creative team’s idea was to offer, in addition to a danceable track for the documentary’s credits, a narrative of hope and connection between the country and its diaspora, as a tool for collective healing from the traumas and pains of migration processes.
